We have done a mix of state test prep, Khan A and Math Bits

Khan Academy!

We have been doing Khan A for about a month and Steven does it at school in lieu of IXL.

Steven got into the Harbor School

We are so excited
When Steven called me I was teaching at the college and had told my students that I was expecting a call...when I saw the number come thru I picked up and heard "Mom I got in!!"

It was done by lottery and when we went to visit they did not have our name because I had entered it into the computer too early in Sept
So we called many times and then it was not until Nov that I went to pick up Steven at school and Ruth Joseph was in the office and called while I was there.   Luckily I had my phone in my pocket b/c Ruth was asked what date we were there.  When she told the Asst Principal, the response was "Oh now I see his name written in"
We then emailed the principal and AP and then sent a printout of the email via snail mail with a maritime stamp

We are soo excited

Math on www.engageny.org

  Using the modules for Grades 7 and 8 plus some Algebra, Steven is learning content close to, at or even above grade level!

"Pinky Pye" was a great book about a cat who could type.  It was interesting and captivating.

Ginger Pye

Ginger Pye was a very exciting and adventurous book.  It deserved the Newbury medal.
I just liked it!  My favorite characters was Uncle Bennie because of his antics.
Now we are on to the sequel Pinky Pye!!

Khan Academy for One Month

from February til March Steven did about 10 minutes of Khan Academy every day.  Then in mid-March, we switched to test prep.

This was a very interesting book.  I liked the entire book.
I liked the scene and the history.  It took place in Korea.

Volunteering at Beczak on Saturdays

Starting 2/11/12, Steven is working at Beczak on Saturday mornings.

Read through all the Fudge books -- some out loud and some independently
Rest of the time, usually Peanuts and/or non-fiction out loud such as DK books on World War I. WW II, Money, etc

The Fighting Ground by Avi

Saving Shiloh

Shiloh Season

Shiloh was a very touching and heartwarming book about a boy named Marty in West Virginia.

I would recommend this book to people who like dogs and also to hunters.

This book also focused on drinking too much and how it affects people's minds and behaviors.

By the end of the book, Shiloh  begins to like Judd Travers.

Whittington

This book was sad because the cat died.  The boy in the story was dyslexic.
